Ezra Learning vs CTCMath

CTCMath is a math-only video curriculum for K–12 with one family price for all the children in the house; Ezra is a Christian Grades 1–9 curriculum in five subjects, also one price for the household. Here is how the two compare on mathematics, line by line. Facts checked October 14, 2026; sources at the end.

In one minute

What each one is

CTCMath is an online mathematics curriculum for Kindergarten through Grade 12 — Kindergarten to Grade 8, then Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus and Calculus — and mathematics only. Each lesson is a short video tutorial with clear spoken explanations that the child can stop and rewind, followed by interactive questions that are marked and recorded at once, pen-and-paper worksheets with worked solutions, and progress reports for the parent, with a weekly report by email if wanted. A Single Membership for one student is $257 a year or $39.90 a month; the Family Membership for more than one student is $397 a year or $59.90 a month, and every membership opens every grade. There is a free trial with no credit card, and a full refund within 365 days.

Ezra Learning covers Grades 1–9 in Mathematics, English, Spelling, Bible and Geography, with about 6,900 hands-on practice skills and 1,220 narrated lessons, each with a printable sheet. Scripture (Berean Standard Bible) is read word for word in every strand of every subject; there are no cartoons, games or characters. The Family plan is $15 a month per household, up to six children, and the first two sections of every subject and grade are free.

CTCMath fits best when…

Choose CTCMath if you need math past Grade 9 — Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus — or kindergarten, you want a short video teacher explaining each topic that the child can rewind, you want the freedom to move a child between grades in one membership, you like pen-and-paper worksheets with worked solutions beside the screen, or you want a 365-day refund to fall back on.

Ezra fits best when…

Choose Ezra if your children are in Grades 1–9, you want math beside English, Spelling, Bible and Geography in one program rather than math alone, you want a Christian program with a Bible verse read aloud in every strand of every subject, you prefer practice the child does with his hands — building the number, dragging the pieces, sorting — to multiple-choice questions, and you want no games on the screen. Both prices are for the household; Ezra's covers five subjects.

Lessons

How a lesson is taught

A CTCMath lesson starts with a short video tutorial: a teacher's voice explains the topic step by step over the working on the screen, and the child can stop and rewind as often as he likes. Then he answers the interactive questions, most of them multiple-choice with the answers jumbled and extra wrong answers added, which are marked at once and recorded; some algebra and geometry lessons are checked by the student against worked solutions. Pen-and-paper worksheets with worked solutions go with the lessons, and placement tests cover each topic of K–8. The parent sees when each lesson was passed and with what score, the time and effort spent, and what needs more review, and most parents switch on the weekly progress report by email.

An Ezra lesson is a short narrated slideshow: one voice reads every word while a simple line drawing builds up on the slide — no cartoons, no characters, no questions asked of the child inside the lesson. The lesson ends with a Bible verse read aloud, and every lesson has a printable sheet for the child to do on paper. Then the child goes to the practice skills of that strand, which are hands-on: drag the pieces, tap the picture, build the number, sort the words, drop a pin on the map.

Scripture

Where the Bible sits

CTCMath makes no statement about faith on its site: it is a mathematics program with no Bible content, neither Christian nor against faith. A family that wants Scripture in the school day adds it from somewhere else. In Ezra, Scripture is not a subject on the side. Every strand of Mathematics, English, Spelling and Geography closes with a verse from the Berean Standard Bible, read aloud word for word, and a Scripture practice skill sits at the end of every strand. Bible is also a subject of its own in every grade, with a character strand (obey right away, tell the truth, no quarrelling) in each. The verses are never paraphrased.

Fair is fair

What CTCMath has that Ezra does not

Kindergarten, and math through Algebra II, Pre-Calculus and Calculus — Ezra ends at Grade 9. A video teacher for every topic, which suits a child who learns by watching the working appear on the screen. One membership that opens every grade, so a child can go back or ahead freely, with placement tests to find where he should start. Pen-and-paper worksheets with worked solutions. A weekly progress report emailed to the parent. A free trial with no credit card and a 365-day full refund. And one family price, as Ezra has.

What Ezra has that CTCMath does not

Five subjects — Mathematics, English, Spelling, Bible and Geography — for one household price, rather than mathematics alone. A Bible verse in every strand of every subject, read aloud word for word from the Berean Standard Bible, and a Bible subject in every grade with a character strand. Practice the child does with his hands — building the number, dragging the pieces, sorting, measuring, dropping a pin — generated endlessly rather than chosen from a list, graded on the spot, with a parent report that shows mastery, minutes and where he needs a hand. One calm narrated voice with a simple drawing on every slide. No games anywhere. A printable sheet for every lesson and a library of 147 books and packs. And two free sections of every subject and grade, with no time limit, rather than a trial.

Questions

Questions families ask

Is CTCMath cheaper than Ezra Learning?

Both are priced for the family. CTCMath's Family Membership is $397 a year or $59.90 a month for more than one student, and a Single Membership is $257 a year or $39.90 a month; that is mathematics only. Ezra is $15 USD a month, $180 a year, for up to six children at the introductory price (normally $19 a month), and it covers Mathematics, English, Spelling, Bible and Geography.

Is CTCMath Christian?

Its site makes no statement either way: it is a math program with no Bible content, and it is neutral rather than hostile to faith. Ezra is a Christian curriculum: Bible is a subject in every grade, and every strand of Math, English, Spelling and Geography ends with a verse from the Berean Standard Bible read aloud.

Does Ezra Learning cover high school math?

No. Ezra's mathematics runs from Grade 1 to Grade 9. CTCMath runs through Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus and Calculus, and it has Kindergarten, so a family with a younger or an older student needs CTCMath or another program for those years.

Does CTCMath cover anything besides math?

No. It is mathematics only. Ezra teaches Mathematics, English, Spelling, Bible and Geography for Grades 1–9; neither program has Science or History.

How is the practice different?

CTCMath's questions are mostly multiple-choice, with the answers jumbled and extra wrong ones added, marked automatically, with pen-and-paper worksheets beside them. Ezra's practice skills generate new questions without end and are done with the hands — dragging, building, sorting — with a hint, a worked answer and a mastery score the parent sees in the report.

Can I try either one for free?

Yes. CTCMath offers a free trial with no credit card, and a full refund within 365 days of buying. Ezra keeps the first two sections of every subject and grade free, with no time limit and no card.
